the latrine, day 10

Coming along nicely, although we're still a couple of weeks from finished.  Craig got all the floor stone cut today and glued in, tomorrow he'll be grouting the floor.  He laid a bit of the shower flooring in today but that too needs grout.  These photos show everything without grout so it looks unfinished, but we're starting to get a little feel for how its going to look.

I love the natural look and feel of the stone.  But anything would feel better than that shitty linoleum that was in there before.

He and his son got the vanities back in yesterday.   Its very hard to take a good photo in the bathroom right now in the evening when he leaves as there is NO light fixture in there whatsoever. So excuse the poor quality of these photos.

You can see the new look of our existing vanites, Andrew stripped and refinished to a dark stain.  he also added bead board to the side to make them more visually interesting, I think its a nice touch.  They were very light colored before.  I think this new dark color will look great with the granite we've chosen. Those guys are coming Friday to measure and so I'm guessing we'll have our counters and rectangular undermount sinks by late next week.  We decided even though before these two vanities were connected with one counter, to open that space in the middle up and get two counter tops.  We're currently shopping for a  tall, rustic apothecary storage cabinet with drawers to put in between the two vanities since we did away with the medicine cabinet and will need some storage. The two huge mirrors I bought are framed in this dark wood as well, with a slight pebble-ish pattern to it.

Speaking of shopping, we bought new light fixtures last night, and new switch plates too.  Everything fixture-wise in the bathroom will be an oil rubbed bronze.   I think I'm going to get a wall mounted bronze make-up mirror, something like this.  And, I've been looking for a couple of very tranquil prints of something natural to fit with the whole spa/natural/organic theme.  Perhaps in black and white, I'm not sure yet.

Here is the start of the shower floor, no grout, no walls up yet, very messy and putty all over the place. The river rock will be the surface of the shower seat too.

I'm enjoying watching the progress, and I think we'll be really happy with it.   Someday we'll have to move onto other bathrooms in the house and update those as well.  And then there's the kitchen...
